Well, not yours; that would be gross. And we’re not that kind of blog! But your dog’s poop/waste bags. Where do you keep them, store them etc.?
We learned early on with a new puppy (who also had worms) the importance of always having extra poop bags on hand. We only had to face the disapproving stares of fellow dog walkers, home owners, and park attendees a couple of times before we developed our own specialized system for poop bag management (SSPBM).
I wish it involved Juno picking up her own waste!
It doesn’t, but it does go like this:
Buy lots, and put them everywhere.
At any given time, we both have at least two bags each – in each of our coat pockets. We use these ones and they smell amazing! It’s always good to be prepared for an unexpected second poop, or to offer a bag to a similarly embarrassed dog owner who may have forgotten their bag at home.
We re-stock every pocket on our person before each trip out the door.
We keep several in tins around the house. There’s one by the front door, one in the front closet, and one by the back patio doors. When we start to get close to the bottom of one of the tins, we refill the container and pick up more bags.
We keep a whole pack in Juno’s travel bag. This way we don’t have to restock with every trip we take.
We keep a stash of bags in the glove compartment of our car. These come in handy too for collecting food or car garbage when travelling.
Yep, that’s a heckuva lot of plastic. BUT we use biodegradable bags as well as just about all of our bread bags, produce bags, milk bags, etc. to stay green and economical with our poop collection.
We then put all our bags in a small garbage can – dedicated just to dog poop – that lives in our garage for convenient transport to the big garbage can on garbage day. We keep a bunch of garbage bags in the bottom of the garbage can for quick re-lining and a can of Lysol spray nearby to keep the smell at bay.
More than you wanted to know? Probably.
But poop happens (especially with a bigger dog). With SSPBM, it’s totally manageable! It’s almost like we never really run out of bags. Poop bags are bound to turn up here, there, and everywhere, which we refer to as ‘poo-dini’. You know, like Houdini, but with/for poop.

Do you plan out your dog poop management too? I really hope we’re not alone in this!? Share…please?
We keep our poop bags in our pocket when we take Bowser for walks! There are a few extra in the car as well as his emergency bag (we live in FL and have his hurricane bag always ready!) but they usually just live in the closet.
Oh wow, a hurricane bag! I would imagine that’s necessary living where you are! Thanks for sharing.
Mom has them everywhere! We tie some on the leash, we have those things that hang on a leash, she has them in all jacket and most pants pockets, in her purse, the car glove compartment…everywhere as you have to be prepared but we have never bought them. We save plastic bags from shopping and use those mostly.
Excellent! Sounds like you’re well prepared.
You don’t want to hear about the poo management we have on our journeys! Suffice to say, we use biodegradable bags and know we aren’t leaving a toxic mess for anyone else to cope with. On a personal level, we stash poo bags in most of your favourite places as we’re always amazed by how often they are needed on a repeat basis on walks 😉
Glad we’re not alone! I can only imagine the amount of poop management that’s involved in your line of work, and over long distances! It’s true, you can never be too prepared….in fact, we had a friend over last weekend who used an extra dog poop bag to package up a baby diaper 😉
